About Me

I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors of Science majoring in Human Experience Design and Interaction (HEDI) with Emphases in Product Development and Multimedia. Additionally, I am minoring in the Mandarin Chinese Language.

My experience working as a Research Assistant for Project UNITE has given me the amazing opportunity to work more closely with individuals within the Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences (ITLS) department. I have learned a lot about writing and data analysis for research-based studies, as well as co-designing strategies of collaboration and communication. My involvement within my department extends to being the Instructional Technology Student Association (ITSA) Vice President of Undergrad and the Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship (UTF).

I have worked as a Production Services/Stage Technician for USU's Caine College of Arts since becoming a freshman at the university. Every workday presents unique challenges, yet I possess the skills and experiences to assist anyone seeking technical support.

I have received several certifications and awards, including: ITLS Undergraduate Scholar of the Year Award for 2024-2025, CHOICE Humanitarian 2019 Nepal Service Project, Weber County Sterling Scholar State Finalist in Computer Technology, and Solidworks CSWA Mechanical Design Certification.

My goal is to use my designing and developing skills towards projects that can help aspire improvements in people's lives. I've always been enthusiastic about the artistry and design sides of engineering, and want to make an impact with my work. The best designs are ones that encourage long-lasting positive memories and feelings.

Undergrads Receive Robust Opportunities to Thrive in Nationally Funded Research Projects

Each semester, Lu Lawrence, assistant professor in the Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Services (ITLS), hires undergraduates to assist in an ongoing collaborative research project, Project UNITE, that aims to impact the lives of young adults with disabilities who are transitioning from high school. Celebrating Malin Scharmann’s outstanding contributions to research, teaching, and student leadership!

As a dedicated scholar in the HEDI major, Malin has supported Dr. Lu Lawrence’s research lab with data collection, analysis, and writing, leading to conference and journal submissions. She has also made a significant impact as a UTF for Computational Thinking and through her leadership roles in ITSA, where she currently serves as the Vice President of Undergraduates. Kudos to Malin for her incredible achievements!
